Although anyone can get skin cancer, it is more common in people who:

  • Have light colored skin or eyes
  • Have a family member with skin cancer
  • Are over the age of 50
  • Use tanning lights or booths

Diagnosis and Treatment

Lakeland Regional Health Dermatologists focus on early detection and treatment of skin cancer for patients. Our team will check your skin for any signs of abnormality that could be of concern, and will work with you to develop a personalized care plan if treatment is needed.

Treatment can include cryotherapy, electrosurgery, and surgical excision. Our physicians are also highly skilled in performing Mohs surgery – a type of surgery where the cancerous tissue is progressively removed to minimize alteration to healthy tissue surrounding the cancer.

Did you know?

Nearly 10,000 Florida individuals were diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer in 2022.

Taking preventative measures such as wearing sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB rays, and always using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher will help decrease your risk of skin cancer.
