Our outstanding surgeons perform nearly every type of cardiovascular surgery, from complex operations to minimally invasive procedures. Our Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Outpatient Care Center is one of only two such programs in Polk County and is the longest established, having provided these lifesaving services to patients and families for over 30 years.

Our Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Outpatient Care Center is located on C4 West at our Medical Center.

Procedures in our Cardiovascular Surgery Program include:

CORONARY ARTERY BYPASS
Surgical bypass is used to treat narrowed arteries by creating a bypass around the section of the artery that is blocked. During the procedure, a new pathway for blood flow is created using a graft. Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) is one of the most common types of open-heart surgery. Bypasses are performed on heart arteries but can also treat peripheral artery disease to bypass arteries in the legs and arms. Femoral popliteal bypass treats femoral artery disease. Subclavian procedures bypass arteries in the upper chest.

TRANSAPICAL AORTIC VALVE REPLACEMENT
For those patients who cannot undergo Transfemoral Aortic Valve Replacement because of a diseased or calcified femoral artery, the physician makes an incision through the chest wall and apex of the heart to get to the aortic valve. This procedure is done in a hybrid operating room so cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons can work together.
