Why Hollis Cancer Center?

Patient-Centered Care

Our award-winning Hollis Cancer Center is dedicated to our patients and ensuring their journey is grounded in hope and healing.

People diagnosed with cancer and their families cope in different ways, and many find that emotional support is helpful during this time. We offer counseling to meet the emotional needs of our patients and families and help them on this journey.

The patient navigator is responsible for several services, both clinical and emotional throughout the patient’s cancer journey. The patient navigator works with physicians to help coordinate multidisciplinary tumor boards at the Hollis Cancer Center.

Our survivorship care program is designed to help survivors take control of their health. At the completion of active treatment, survivors are given a treatment summary and guidelines, called a survivorship care plan, for ongoing follow-up care. Learn more here!

The Hollis Cancer Center continues to work closely with the American Cancer Society to offer our patients a variety of cancer support groups, screenings, and educational programs for patients and family members and the community.

Even down to the design of our facility, Hollis Cancer Center is dedicated to the hope and healing of our patients and their loved ones. Patients and clinicians worked together to guide our design team in creating a place of serenity, hope, and healing.

My physician called me personally. He called me just to check on me. That was like, ‘Wow!’ That was like my oldest brother was sitting there, just holding my hand.

About Mark C. Hollis and the Hollis Cancer Center

Mark C. Hollis, who served as President of Publix Super Markets from 1984 to 1996, passed away from complications of cancer in December 2012. He was a devoted husband to Lynn Hollis and loving father to Clayton, Dean and Jack.

Mark Hollis also enjoyed life as a sculptor, and his piece “Survivor” is showcased at the Hollis Cancer Center. The stone sculpture is of a female torso and signifies the difficult journey and inner strength of breast cancer patients. “They are fighting a battle, the battle of cancer and just like the stone, their own beauty comes from within,” Mark Hollis had described of his work.

In 2015, Lakeland Regional Health announced an unprecedented $5 million donation from the Hollis family designated to benefit and name the Cancer Center. The facility now bears the name Lakeland Regional Health Hollis Cancer Center in honor of this gift.

The Lakeland Regional Health Hollis Cancer Center opened in 2003. As Central Florida’s premier center for healing, hope, and discovery, our state-of-the-art campus offers all the services necessary for patients to conquer cancer, designed expressly with those in our care in mind.

The Hollis Cancer Center holds top-tier Gold Status Accreditation from the Commission on Cancer and was named one of 24 oncology programs in the U.S. to earn the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer. To learn more about our accreditation and designations, click here.

Bringing Hope and Confidence to Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast cancer changes lives. It affects the body and mind of patients who rely on the support of family, friends, community, and medical care to reach survivorship.

But those who reach survivorship are still reminded of the scarring experience they endured. Dr. David Straughan of Lakeland Regional Health sees survivors in their final cancer chapter before survivorship.

Hope and Help for Pancreatic Cancer

Facing a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer brings with it a host of questions, namely which treatment options are available and how much travel is required to access those treatments.
We understand that our patients need comprehensive care that combines expertise, compassion, and innovative techniques, without the hassle and complications that come along with lengthy travel.

That’s why right here in Lakeland, we proudly offer one of the most innovative, and difficult to find, surgical treatments for pancreatic cancer available today — the Robotic Whipple.

By Your Side Through Every Stage

Life is unexpected; it throws challenges and curves our way. So, when life happens, your support system is there to provide compassionate, kind, and unconditional care. Our surgeons, Breast Navigators, and care teams are proud to be part of your support system. Whether attending regular mammograms, newly diagnosed, supporting a loved one through their diagnosis, or a survivor of breast cancer, we are here to care for you, for life.

10 Things a Colorectal Surgeon Wants You to Know About Colorectal Cancer

1 in 23 men and 1 in 26 women will develop colorectal cancer in their lifetime.

This statistic is quite eye-opening and one that may feel overwhelming. At Lakeland Regional Health, we understand the importance of educating patients about potential risks, symptoms, and warning signs of illness so you can receive treatment as soon as possible. We sat down with Dr. Sowsan Rasheid, colorectal surgery specialist, to learn about colorectal cancer. Here are the 10 things to know about this disease and how to stay healthy.
