The 32-bed, state-of-the-art Bannasch Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation Medicine is busy gearing up for its August 2015 opening on the Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center campus.

To help patients reach faster and more successful recoveries, Lakeland Regional Health is excited to announce it will become the second and third locations in Florida to feature the innovative Vector Gait & Safety System. The Bannasch Institute will have a 100-foot Vector track, and a second track will be installed at the Grasslands Campus for use in outpatient rehabilitation services. The Grasslands expansion is planned to complete in April 2016.

Physical therapists from throughout Central Florida took the opportunity to learn more about the Vector system while it was on display recently at the Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center Campus.

The device is a high-tech ceiling trolley and harness system that provides patients requiring physical rehabilitation a way to improve their ability to stand and walk without the risk of falls. The system is aimed at patients who are rehabilitating after strokes, amputations, orthopedic injuries and spinal cord injuries.

“This groundbreaking technology will vastly improve patient outcomes and confidence while providing our clinical team members with award-winning rehab technology,” said James L. McEwen, PhD, ABDA, Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit Director. “The Bannasch Institute team is focused on encouraging the patient to achieve the highest degree of independence possible.”

To meet this community need, Lakeland Regional Health is recruiting top-notch occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, rehab nurses, rehab coaches, physical therapist assistants, and other integral therapy-care professionals.
