Pulmonology / Critical Care

Pulmonologists are internal medicine doctors who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of lung conditions, diseases and other health issues that affect the respiratory tract. Many pulmonologists are also often trained in critical care medicine and work in intensive care treating patients with life-threatening injuries or illnesses.

Whether you need treatment for a chronic respiratory condition or you need intensive care for a life-threatening event, the pulmonologists and critical care physicians of Lakeland Regional Health are highly skilled to provide proper respiratory care and treatment, including life-saving care when you need it most.

The Center for Interstitial Lung Disease and Pulmonary Hypertension and the Lung Nodule Clinic both use advanced technology to achieve earlier diagnoses of lung cancer and disease. Both are located on the Grasslands Campus.

Center for Interstitial Lung Disease and Pulmonary Hypertension

The expert providers at the Center for Interstitial Lung Disease and Pulmonary Hypertension work with patients to develop personalized treatments for an array of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), which cause inflammation and scarring on the lungs, including:

  • Hypersensitivity pneumonitis
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis-associated ILD
  • Systemic sclerosis

The Center for Interstitial Lung Disease and Pulmonary Hypertension provides management of specialty medications, such as those used to slow the progression of fibrosis, as well as pulmonary rehabilitation and lung transplant care.

Dr. James Brown, a pulmonary and critical care physician, serves as director of the Center for Interstitial Lung Disease and Pulmonary Hypertension.

Lung Nodule Clinic

At the Lung Nodule Clinic, a multidisciplinary team works with patients to develop personalized care plans following lung screenings.

The Lung Nodule Clinic team uses the Intuitive Ion Robotic Navigational Bronchoscopy, groundbreaking technology that allows physicians to obtain biopsy samples of difficult-to-reach nodules and lesions in all 18 segments of the lung in a minimally invasive procedure.

Additionally, a Lung Nodule Nurse Navigator screens every patient who is referred to ensure a biopsy is expedited. The Lung Nodule Nurse Navigator also screens for incidental lung nodule findings to detect and diagnose every case of lung cancer.

Dr. Yatin Kheti, a pulmonary and critical care physician, serves as director of the Lung Nodule Clinic.
