Pillars of Research

The strength of our research mission is drawn from the many disciplines and cuts across each of these research pillars. Each and every project not only will generate new and innovative findings, but they all are designed to be rapidly translated to the bedside—this approach ensures that we are delivering the most up-to-date, evidence-based care.

Although we are conducting research throughout the whole system, these targeted pillars are foundational to our efforts for more extensive research.

  • Behavioral Health/Psychiatry
  • Cancer
  • Cardiology
  • COVID-19 treatment
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Nursing
  • Pediatrics
  • Pulmonology
  • Trauma/Critical Care
  • Pharmacy/Medication-Use

Committed to Healthcare and the Community

Lakeland Regional Health is committed to advancing clinical research to promote the health of individuals, families, communities, and populations, and our goal is to use the knowledge gained from our research to improve the lives of those we serve.

The Department of Research and Sponsored Studies is a growing enterprise of Lakeland Regional Health focused on conducting and facilitating clinical research. Our researchers are on the front lines of healthcare delivery, putting them in a unique position to conduct studies on many of the issues that they see in treating patients every day at Lakeland Regional Health.

How Does Research Benefit You and the Community?

Having a robust research program at Lakeland Regional Health means that our local community can participate in clinical research that adds to overall clinical knowledge. Many of the medical breakthroughs celebrated today came about because of clinicians and researchers just like those at Lakeland Regional Health who are dedicated to finding ways to improve patient care.

Clinical studies are not new to Lakeland Regional Health. Our Hollis Cancer Center has been heavily involved in clinical research over the years, including many national studies associated with cancers of the breast, head and neck, prostate, and pancreas. Clinical trials just like these have helped to bring about numerous pharmaceutical treatments for cancer.
